These are general life-stage ranges for dogs from the AKC and Hill's; no study gives a separate figure for the Dalmatian. Individual dogs vary, and a sudden change in how much your dog sleeps is worth mentioning to your vet.

Exercise needs

PDSA says Dalmatians need a minimum of two hours of exercise a day, and The Royal Kennel Club lists more than two hours. They are built for steady distance, so long walks, jogging once fully grown and off-lead running in safe places suit them. Build distance gradually in young dogs.

Potty training

Dalmatian puppies follow the usual puppy rhythm: out after waking, eating and play, and often in between. They tend to be quick to learn a routine when it is predictable.

As adults, give plenty of chances to urinate through the day. PDSA notes that many Dalmatians cannot process uric acid normally, which raises the risk of bladder stones, so regular toilet breaks and fresh water matter for this breed.

Feeding

Because of that uric acid trait, encourage drinking: keep fresh water available at all times and some owners add water to meals. Ask your vet whether a lower-purine diet is right for your dog, especially if it has had crystals or stones.

Feed young puppies three to four meals a day and adults two, adjusting for how active your dog is. Report straining, frequent small wees or blood in the urine to your vet promptly.

Frequently asked questions

How much exercise does a Dalmatian need?

At least two hours a day according to PDSA, with The Royal Kennel Club also listing more than two hours.

Why do Dalmatians need so much water?

PDSA explains that many Dalmatians carry a gene that affects uric acid processing, raising the risk of bladder stones. Plenty of water and frequent toilet breaks help.
