Exercise needs
PDSA recommends a minimum of two hours a day, spread across the day, and The Royal Kennel Club lists more than two hours. Mix walks with tracking, obedience and play. Keep exercise for growing puppies short and controlled, and avoid lots of jumping and stair running while the joints develop.
Potty training
German Shepherd puppies are clever and learn a routine quickly when it is consistent. Take them out after sleep, food and play, reward right away, and use a cue word they can learn to respond to.
They bond strongly with their people, so short separations from the start help avoid stress-related accidents when they are left alone later.

Feeding
Feed a large-breed puppy food for steady growth, three to four meals a day early on and two meals as an adult. Keep the dog lean; extra weight adds strain to hips and elbows.
German Shepherds are large and deep-chested, so knowing about bloat (GDV) is wise. The AKC notes that two meals a day carry less risk than one, and slow feeders help gulpers. Keep vigorous exercise away from mealtimes and get emergency help for a swollen belly with unproductive retching.
