Breed profile
Pomeranian: size, sleep, exercise and care
The Pomeranian is a tiny spitz of roughly 1.4–3.2 kg (3–7 lb, per the AKC) with a thick stand-off coat. It is bright, bold and devoted to its owner, and it fits plenty of personality into a very small body.

These are general life-stage ranges for dogs from the AKC and Hill's Pet Nutrition; no kennel club publishes sleep figures for the Pomeranian specifically. Toy puppies tire fast. Several short play sessions with naps in between suit a Pomeranian puppy better than one long, busy stretch.
Exercise needs
The Royal Kennel Club puts the Pomeranian in its "up to 30 minutes a day" band, and short walks plus indoor games are usually enough. The dense double coat holds heat: on warm days, walk in the cool hours, bring water and watch for heavy panting.
Potty training
With a bladder this small, a Pomeranian puppy needs frequent trips out: after waking, eating, drinking and playing, and last thing at night. The AKC notes that toy breeds often take longer to be fully reliable indoors, so plan on patience and close supervision for several months.
Many toy-dog owners add an indoor spot with pads for rainy or freezing days. If you do, keep it in one fixed place and reward use of it just as you would outdoors. A puppy potty schedule helps you plan the breaks.

Feeding
Young toy puppies can develop low blood sugar if meals are too far apart, especially when they are cold, stressed or very active. Give a Pomeranian puppy several small meals across the day, and contact your vet if it becomes weak, trembly or unusually sleepy.
Adults usually do well on two small, measured meals. At under 3 kg, even a few extra treats make a real difference to weight.
